Which Air Purifier Systems Can Help You This Summer?

Most homeowners would be surprised to discover that their indoor air quality in their home could actually be worse than the outdoor air quality. This is true though, particularly in spring when allergens like dust and pollen are circulated in the home.

While sources of air pollution may exist in any area of your home, the good news is that there are multiple air purifier solutions to help you out by creating more healthful air.

What Does an Air Purifier Accomplish?

There are a number of different types of air purifiers, also referred to as air cleaners. So there is no single method that they all use to remove small particles from a home. The basic premise of an air purifier, however, is that it removes airborne particles that are present in your home.

These airborne irritants can include things like dust mites, pet dander, pollen, mold, plant sports, and fungi. Air purifiers can also efficiently filter out smoke, low levels of carbon monoxide, pesticides, odors and much more.

The Different Types

  • Air Filtration System: This system is made of a fiber mesh, stretched out over a frame and installed in your home’s ducts. When air flow through the mesh, any contaminants it carries becomes snared in the fibers. This simple and effective method is what makes air filtration systems among the most popular air purifiers nationwide.
  • Ionizing Purifiers: This is one of the most common types of air purifiers, and uses a method called corona discharge in order to electrify particles, which can then go stick to two charged metal plates within the purifier. At this point the particles can be cleaned off.
  • UV Air Purifiers: Also referred to as an UV germicidal light system, this type of air purifier kills and sterilizes tiny contaminants like bacteria and mold that might exist within your ductwork. This can be part of an air purification system or it can be installed within your air handler, so that all the air that moves through your ducts is sterilized.
